Jordan Ethnic Groups
Approximately 95 to 98% of Jordan's population is composed of Arabs, that is, Arabic-speaking Arab-identified people. Among Arabs, the majority are Muslim by religion, while a small minority is Christian. Palestinians are the largest ethnic group in Jordan comprising of about 48% of the total population. Ethnic Jordanians comprise of 29% of the total population of Jordan. The third largest ethnic group is Iraqis comprising of 14% of Jordan's population. Syrians comprise of 5% of Jordan's population making it the 4th largest Arab ethnic group in Jordan. The other 2% of Jordan's population that are of Arab background are from Egypt, Lebanon, and other Arab countries.
Of the non-Arab population which comprise of 2% of Jordan's population, most are Circassians, Chechens, Armenians, Kurds, and Gypsies, all of which have maintained separate ethic identities, but have integrated into mainstream Jordanian and Arab culture. Among non-Arabs, most are Muslim by religion, with a small Christian minority.
